PERRY, GA - Dr. Bonnie L. Brinson, M.D., age 53, of Perry, Georgia died Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Perry Hospital in Perry, GA.
Visitation will be Friday, July 28, 2017 at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, Georgia from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The Funeral service will be held at the Oglethorpe United Methodist Church in Oglethorpe, Georgia on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. A private graveside service will follow in Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville, Georgia.
Dr. Brinson attended Southland Academy. She graduated through the early admissions program of Emory at Oxford in Covington, Georgia and received a B.S in Biology and Chemistry from Emory University. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from Mercer University School of Medicine and completed the Family Practice residency program at The Medical Center of Middle Georgia in Macon, Georgia followed by a fellowship in Obstetrics at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, an affiliate of the University of Tennessee School of Medicine. During the fellowship she served one month in the Royal Flying Doctors providing health care to the aboriginal population in western Australia.
Dr. Brinson was in private practice in Perry, Georgia serving on the medical staff at Perry Hospital. She served as an Emergency Room physician throughout middle Georgia including Taylor Memorial Regional Hospital in Hawkinsville, Georgia.
Dr. Brinson is the daughter of Mary Wurst Brinson and the late Jeremiah Edison Brinson of Oglethorpe, Georgia and the grand-daughter of the late Robert Earl Brinson, Sr. MD and Sara Lovett Brinson of Wrightsville, Georgia and the late Charles Carl Wurst and Idella Carter Wurst of Meigs, Georgia.
Dr. Brinson is survived by aunts Ester Smith Wurst, Elizabeth Strickland Wurst, Billie Turner Brinson and Gloria McLendon Wurst and an uncle, James E. Wurst. She is also survived by sisters Sara Penn (Edward) of Greenville, SC, Dell Kring (Gary) of Talbatton, Georgia, Gwen Murphy (Keith) of Dunwoody, Georgia; a brother R. Earl Brinson MD of Charleston, SC; numerous nieces and nephews including Jeremiah J. Kring (Shannon), Meghan L. Brinson Ghiotto (Tony) and Sara A. Brinson; great nieces, Raven and Amanda Kring and great nephews, Jefferson and Theodore Ghiotto.
