LINCOLNTON, GA - Binion E. Avera, age 84 of Lincolnton, GA, formerly of Upatoi, GA, passed away, Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA.
Graveside funeral services with military honors were held at 11 AM, Monday, Feb. 14, 2011 at Andersonville National Cemetery.
Visitation was from 9 AM - 10:30 AM at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma on the morning of the service.
Binion was born on February 27, 1926 in Atlanta, GA to the late Thomas Binion Avera and Ruth Webb Avera. He was a foreman with Atlanta Iron Workers and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Ellerslie, GA.
Survivors include his son, David Avera; five brothers and sisters, Adina (Gene) Bailey of Knoxville, TN, Joel (Bette Jean) Avera of Plum Branch, SC, Paden (Maurice) Avera of Cordele, GA, Tomlyn Avera of Augusta, GA, Ann Whittemore of Athens, GA; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha E. Avera and a son, Otis Earl "Buddy" Avera.
