Barry Yoakum

Barry Dean Yoakum, age 59, died on this 15th day of September 2023 at the Pine Pointe Hospice Home in Bibb County, GA. He was born on October 30, 1963 and following a lengthy stay in intensive care as he was premature, was placed in foster care in the home of Bertha Brenneman in Virginia Beach, VA. Barry was never adopted even though he wished to be. Ida Brenneman became his second foster mother.

He was preceded in death by members of immediate foster family: Ida Brenneman, Bertha Brenneman, Ruth McDaniel, Alton Brenneman, Rhoda Brenneman, and Terry Warren, a fellow foster child.

Surviving members of the immediate foster family are Donnie Brenneman, Fern Yoder, Dorcas Miller and Renie Brenneman all of Virginia Beach, VA. Many extended foster family members and friends were loved by Barry and they loved him as well.

Barry grew up on a dairy farm and worked on the farm from an early age. He was a truck driver for many years, who transported goods all over the United States and into Canada until his health would not allow it.

Baptized in his youth at Kempsville Mennonite Church in Virginia Beach, VA, he was a member of the Christian faith who loved the Lord. He attended the attended the Christian Fellowship Word of Life Church in Montezuma, GA, where he was a member, in the last years of his life.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at Christian Fellowship Word of Life Church, located at 902 Greenwood Drive, Montezuma, GA.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, September 18, 2023 at Christian Fellowship Word of Life Church, Montezuma, GA. The Ministers will be Steve Esh, Milton Yoder, Donnie Yoder and Donnie Brenneman.

The burial will be in the Montezuma Mennonite Church Cemetery, located at 2307 White House Road, Montezuma, GA. A meal will follow the burial.

In lieu of flowers, Barry requested that donations be made to the Faith Mission Home, 3450 Mission Home Lane, Free Union, VA 22940.
