Barbara Ann Skipper

Barbara Ann Skipper, age 84, of Marshallville, GA passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Barbara was born on March 20, 1940, in Sumter County, GA to the late Johnie Colie Wisham and Willa Carolyn McGuire Wisham.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 3 pm at the First Baptist Church Marshallville. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Pastor Clay Burdette will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the Marshallville Cemetery.

Survivors include her beloved daughter, Nina Carol Goodman and her husband Terry of Marshallville, GA; two grandchildren, J.B. Goodman and Jessica Goodman, both of Marshallville; one stepdaughter, Ramona Hickox and her husband Gary of Cordele, GA; and two step-grandchildren; Lesli Hickox and Joel Hickox, both of Cordele, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, John B. Skipper and her second husband, Dennis C. Skipper.

After graduating from Fort Valley High School in 1958, Barbara worked for 31 years with the Kellwood Company in Perry, GA as a quality control inspector. After retirement, she became a fulltime grandmother to her grandchildren and her grandchildren-by-choice; DarylAnn, Courtney, Justin and Casey, and the many children of Marshallville who knew her as GranGran or simply Granny.

Barbara enjoyed the simple things in life. She loved to cook and care for her family and friends. She enjoyed working with her hands as she cared for her flower gardens earlier in life and her house plants later in life. Barbara was also known for her sewing abilities, which included her many embroidery projects, that she shared with all.

Barbara was an avid reader who read her Bible daily, along with the devotional magazines Open Windows and Journey and the many books that were gifted to her by family and friends. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church Marshallville, and active in the Church Choir, the Adult Sunday School Class and the Social Committee.
