OGLETHORPE, GA - Mrs. Alva B. Whatley, 92, of Oglethorpe, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at The Oaks Nursing and Personal Care Home in Marshallville, GA. Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014, at Watson-Mathews Funeral Home in Montezuma, GA. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, September 26, 2014 at Andersonville National Cemetery.
Mrs. Whatley was born September 18, 1922 in Springfield, SC, to the late Willie Wyatt Bolin and Bonnie Hoover Bolin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Hudson Whatley.
Mrs. Whatley is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (Mike) Cockerham of Oglethorpe, GA, and her sister, Ernestine Owensby of Macon, GA. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews: Brenda Cowart of Gainesville, FL, Patrick Howard of Gainesville, FL, Vernon Clouser of Gainesville, FL, Debbie Drawdy of Cayce, SC, Ann Hornsby of Bluffton, SC, Billy Bolin of Darien, GA, Jimmy Drawdy of Casey, SC, Tim (Laurie) Howard of Townsend, GA, Jill Robinson of New Market, TN, Bonnie Nixon of Charleston, SC, Harmon Martin of Charleston, SC, Pete (Alice) McGrew of Saluda, SC, Susan (Barry) Lews of Pennsylvania, and Teri Moore of New Market, TN. In addition, Mrs. Whatley leaves behind a host of special friends and the staff at The Oaks Nursing Home.
